T-Shirt fundraiser
Nothing has been done with this since the last meeting.
If you have design ideas, please email them to Roger Davis (redavis[at]umd[dot]umich[dot]edu)
ACM Office
The officers decided at the December meeting to get the locked changed and new keys made. The paperwork has been filled out and will be submitted to Campus Safety today. The cost to get a new lock is $13. The locksmith is on campus on Thursdays, though it probably won’t get done until next week (January 24). The officers will get their keys soon.
Request for Donations
Sally Tarabah, the immediate past president, is asking for donations of software for children or your time to help sick kids. If you have any educational or gaming programs suitable for young children that you do not use anymore, consider donating it. Contact Sally with any questions (sallyz98[at]gmail[dot]com).
Gaming Day
Gaming Day is scheduled for Saturday, February 9, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Contact Nick Martineau if you would like to help with this event. As of today, 63 people have signed up and of those 49 have not yet been admitted to the university. We will try to persuade them to attend UM-D.
Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE)
UPE is the honor society of ACM. We encourage all students with a 3.0 GPA and 42 credits at the University of which 12 are in CIS classes to join UPE. See their website for more information http://upe.umd.umich.edu/
High School Programming Competition
The annual high school programming competition will be on Saturay, April 5, 2008. Dr. Elenbogen needs volunteers to help on that day or to write problems for the competition. The problems should be solvable by students who have taken CIS 150 or 200 or equivalent.
There will also be a web design competition the same day. Dr. Maxim is running the design competition.
Sample problems from last year’s high school competition are available on the Engineering Department’s website at http://www.engin.umd.umich.edu/contest/index.php. The University of Valladolid also keeps an archive of ACM ICPC problems at http://icpcres.ecs.baylor.edu/onlinejudge/index.php?option=com_onlinejudge&Itemid=8.
