Officers Present

Roger Davis (President), Cardi DeMonaco (Vice President), Pablo Garcia (Treasurer), Scott Hoffman (Secretary)

ACM Office / Website

The lock on the ACM office door has been changed. Now only the officers have keys.
Also, Roger has contact ITS and added Cardi, Pablo, and Scott as owners of the ACM website so they can maintain the website.

Classroom Membership Drive

All ACM members should continue to recruit new members from their classes. Invite potential members to our next meeting.

T-Shirts

We still need artwork for the t-shirts. Roger knows someone who can make the shirts once we have a design. Anyone interested should send a design(s) to Roger by Friday, February 22, 2008. The person who contributes the winning design will receive a free shirt.
In addition, Dr. Elenbogen will award 1 (one) extra credit point to every one of his students who submit a design.

Divine Child High School / Engineering Contest

Mr. Perez from the CECS Advising Office is looking for an ACM member to go with him to Divine Child High School on Saturday, March 8, 2008 to talk to students about the University, classes, and the programming competition. Contact rperez [at] umich [dot] edu for more information.

High School Programming Competition

The annual High School Programming Competition will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Dr. Elenbogen needs volunteers to assist with the competition. All volunteers will receive a free lunch and a hat. If you can help for all or any part of the day, let Dr. Elenbogen know.
Dr. Elenbogen also requests that all ACM members deliver a flyer about the event to their high school’s computer programming or web design teacher. Flyers were distributed at the meeting and more are available by contacting Dr. Elenbogen.

Important notes from the January16th meeting:

We also need people to write problems for the programming competition. The problems should be solvable by students who have taken CIS 150 or 200 or equivalent. There will also be a web design competition the same day. Dr. Maxim is running the design competition.
Sample problems from last year’s high school competition are available on the Engineering Department’s website at http://www.engin.umd.umich.edu/contest/index.php.

Picnic

Our annual picnic will be held after the winter semester ends. We need to find incentives to get women to come (bonus points if they join ACM). The officers will contact other student organizations and attempt to plan a co-sponsored event; anyone else involved in other organizations should contact an officer to discuss the possibility of joining forces for the picnic.

MYSTERY Topic

Roger reports that Dr. Elenbogen was successfully nominated for the Distinguished Teaching Award. The criteria for selecting the finalists include effectiveness in the classroom, revitalization of the curriculum, and interaction with students outside the classroom. The award recipients will be announced in April.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. in the CIS building conference room.
