Officers present
Cardi DeMonaco, Jr. (President), Scott Hoffman (Secretary)

Gaming Day
Cardi has requested Kochoff Hall on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, for our ACM Gaming Day.  Cardi asked for a volunteer to manage the event.

We also discussed the possibility of co-sponsoring the event with the Game Club.

As a reminder, at the September 16, 2008, meeting, we considered have new and old games like Super Smash Brothers, Halo, NES games, and others.

If you have any ideas or would like to help organize the event, please contact Cardi as soon as possible.

ACM Programming Competition

The current team members are Cale Colony, Luke Duncan, Andrew Hagen, Scott Hoffman, and Trevor Tabaka.  We need one more person to make two teams of three!  Please contact Professor Elenbogen or Dennis Matveyev if you are interested in participating in the contest on November 1.

Webmaster
If anyone is interested in helping maintain ACM’s website, please contact Cardi or Scott.

Brochures

Scott presented his brochure entitled “Free Software Guide for College Students” that features free/open source and freeware alternatives to popular proprietary software programs.

Cardi suggested we also compile a PowerPoint presentation or another document/web page with more details about the information contained in the brochures to put on the website.

T-Shirts

Since nobody has submitted ideas for a shirt design, we discussed the option of having a generic t-shirt with just the University’s logo and ACM’s logo or text.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. in the CIS building conference room.

Welcome to the new website for the University of Michigan-Dearborn chapter of the ACM.  This new site allows us to publish content much easier than the old site, so expect to find new posts often.  It also offers an RSS feed so you can stay informed without having to visit the site.  Soon I will be upgrading the forum software to the latest version and creating a unified theme for the entire site.  Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be copying the data from our previous sites to keep a complete record on the new site.

Please share your thoughts about the new design and any problems you encounter in the comments or email me (sehoffma@umd…).  The previous site will be available for a bit longer at http://acm.umd.umich.edu/old.

Sincerely,
Scott Hoffman
